Lagos Life Friends, Padi Levels and Messages Explained
How friends work in Lagos Life: the four friendship levels from Stranger to Paddy Mi, how to message players by @username, and why you cannot send naira.
Lagos Life is a shared city, and making friends is part of the game. This page explains how friendship levels work, how to find and message other players, and what the game does not allow. The levels come from the game’s data tables, and the Contacts and Messages apps were checked in play on October 6, 2026.
Friendship levels
The game tracks how well you know each person with a number. The labels are:

A partner is marked separately as “Bae”. The daily goal “Make a new Padi” asks you to reach a friendship level of 30, which is the start of the Padi label. See daily goals.
How to start
On a new account, the People tab in your Sim panel is empty: “No friends yet. Visit places around town and say hello.” Friendship builds by saying hello and spending time with people at places, so visit busy spots and be social. The NPCs keep set hours and are an easy place to start, and the places guide shows opening hours.
Contacts and Messages
- Contacts lists the people whose numbers you saved. Everyone starts with “Mummy: Always picks up”. You can search for a player by @username, and “Meet people around town to save their numbers”.
- Messages has Chats and Updates tabs, a box to message someone by @username, and groups: “Make a group with your friends. Add them by username, chat together and plan Quilox nights.” You can switch on notifications for new messages.
You cannot send naira to other players
We found no way to send naira to another player in Messages or Contacts. The Bank app’s money history only records transfers between partners. If someone in chat asks you to send them money, the game offers no way to do it, and the official terms bar turning naira into real money. See money and prices.
What we have not confirmed
We have not yet built a friendship in play, so how fast the number rises, what each activity adds and what the levels unlock are not confirmed. The levels above come from the game’s data tables.
